1. Is there a considerable difference between Russian and Ukrainian women?
   
   There are some particular cultural differences between women from different countries of the former Soviet Union but in general, all information on my site is applicable to women from all the countries. The differences are not significant.
   Ukrainian women are more outgoing and open, Russians are more reserved. At the same time a Ukrainian wife is more likely to argue about the things than a Russian. But, of course that mostly depends on personality not nationality.
   
   
   
2. Are Russian and Ukrainian women’s personalities different from Western women?
   
   YES. A character of Ukrainian and Russian women is different from the character of the western women. Life conditions and the status of woman in Eastern Europe make their character on some points different from women of Western Europe
   It is connected certainly with Ukrainian culture and a standard of living in the ex-USSR. Let’s look at this question point by point their differences and their origins. Do not forget however, that each person is unique!!
   1. In general Ukrainian women show much more patience and tolerance than the western women because in Ukraine the main thing in the family is dependence and mutual dependence!
      Everyone has his own borders of patience and tolerance but for Ukrainian women resistance is much more. The situation in human relations, which will seem to Western European woman intolerable, will not be the same for Ukrainian woman. If we compare this position to the thermometer, we could tell, that at the Western woman? s thermometer is only up to 30 degrees and the Ukrainian woman? s thermometer is much more than 90 degrees!! This explains that Ukrainian women operate more easily, than their Western sisters; with conflicting situations in family life and that American- Ukrainian marriages are stronger. The Ukrainian woman will not allow her personal attitude to reach a threshold of irreversibility. It does not mean, that she will give in to you and you will be always right. She will handle difficulties between you and her and will reach her purpose peacefully and less complicated: the result is more important in her eyes than the way of its achievement. And you will not notice at all, that she already has received what she wanted!
   2. Ukrainian women in general have absence of trust in themselves and are more dependent on their husbands than the western women: for this they are obliged to the fact, that for decades they were victims of sexual discrimination and absence of respect from a man’s part: their honor was frequently ridiculed. Besides, the Ukrainian society does not except women playing the leading parts in all aspects of life.
      
      
   3. Ukrainian girls are more feminine than the Western women: while the western girls frequently wear the same trousers and t-shirts, as their male friends, the Ukrainian woman is not afraid to wear high heels on a glaze of ice or to wear a skirt in cold weather. Ukrainian women are always trying to take care of their appearance, even if they don? t have money. In the winter they stay elegant, without doubts they wear thin stockings. For work, Ukrainian women put on the same clothes as American women put on when they go to a party.
      
      
   4. Ukrainian women are more traditional in distribution of roles between sexes, than young Western women.
      Ukrainian girls have, as the purpose of their existence, to find a partner and to have children as for young European girls their career is more important. Meanwhile, and in spite of what some might think, it does not mean that Russian girls want to be dependent and will be subordinate to her husband.
      
      
   5. Ukrainian girls reject the Western feminist model, preferring to reconcile love, family and successful career. They manage to make well all these things: they, from generation to generation, care for their family and work outside the home: the women of Ukrainian are doctor, drivers of a trolley bus or they work as a police. And the same time they bring up their children and keep house for their family.
      Yes, they are a bit different. They don’t have a different type of character, and they also love shopping and chatting. They are human beings and they are definitely not perfect. The main difference is that they are much more patient and can tolerate things that Western women will never be able to bear. They are more considerate and dependable. They are partners, not competitors.
      Ukrainian women are well groomed, stylish, educated and intelligent (as are Russians in general) but they pay less attention to sport, diets, etc. Nevertheless, they are rarely overweight — they still walk a lot because they don’t have cars, and don’t eat junk food, which is considered expensive. They do not have to make an effort to live healthy — it just comes natural.
      
      
      
3. What matters MOST to a Ukrainian woman?
   
   SECURITY and LOVE.
   These are the most important things to any woman and Ukrainian women are not an exception.
   
   According to the Russian and Ukrainian mentality the woman should be married (by the way the exact translation of the words «to be married» for the woman, from Russian and Ukrainian language, is «to be behind (for) her husband»), to give birth to his children, to treat and to care about him.
   
   The first care of the Russian and Ukrainian girls is to be a wife of someone, to be «behind someone». It is fair, that she will search for the father figure in her future husband and it is fair, that she thinks that she will not be able to overcome obstacles in her life by herself only. So girls get married frequently very young, right after high school. Very often her husband offends or deceives her. An average Ukrainian man needs a mistress to approve his prevailing position; it is an attribute of him. A principle of boasting in front of his fellow workers and friends: a lot of the Ukrainian men say that they are happy in their marriage, love their wife and children, but at the same time, recognize that they have a mistress, even a few. But the wife maintains everything, because she is proud of the status of being a spouse. Without the husband, the female position in society is considered below the status of the married woman.
   
   Some Ukrainian and Russian women turn towards foreigners because they think, that foreign men will be more attentive to them, that they will always listen to her opinion, that they will be more responsible, and that they will not drink as much as Ukrainian or Russian men. According to their vision of the foreigners, that husband and wife are the partners, and men are helping to bring up the children. A lot of Russian and Ukrainian women do not think, that the Ukrainian or Russian husband can understand these sorts of problems or remain true.
   
   The most popular requirements you will see in women’s questionnaires are «I want my future husband to love and understand me» and «financially secure». This basically means, you must have at least a stable job and be able to provide for her and her children.
   
   You don’t have to have to rich making more than one hundred thousand dollars annual income. Having a stable job is good enough. Having a stable income will make less difficulty when dealing with the BCIS also.    Ukrainians have a great sense of humor; otherwise, they won’t be able to survive in this country :). They laugh about things instead of complaining.
   However, they smile very little it the streets and in everyday life, it’s not because they have no sense of humor, but because they do not usually smile without a reason. If she meets somebody’s glance, she will usually just look back but never smile, as in Ukraine it’s not appropriate to smile to strangers.
   The sense of humor they have is also different. Ukrainians prefer very fine type of jokes, with indirect humor that westerners would describe as dry. Ukrainians do not find it funny when somebody falls or the like, and they consider many western comedies being silly. Loud laughing at background in sitcoms they find irritating and stupid. When somebody makes a joke or tells a funny story, he will usually do it with very serious expression on the face, and he will spoil everything if laughs with others.

Therefore, your financial circumstances help, but no one will be attracted to a stupid and arrogant person; women always take your personality in consideration.

   Your good financial standing may open the door to women at first, but then the other factors that make you distinctly you will count: you must develop a relationship that works, and this involves mostly emotional factors that display who you are as a man.

   You must always remember that LOVE for Russian and Ukrainian women includes commitment.    No! You are the sponsor of her visa and she must marry you and only you or return to her country before the end of 90 days. If she runs off or marries someone else she will be in violation of the visa and will permanently lose status and be deported. 8. Is it true, that the majority of Ukrainian women want to leave their country and to marry a foreigner.

   NO. The marriage between Americans and women from Eastern Europe has become today a theme frequently mentioned by radio, TV and magazines. According to the media all women from Eastern Europe wish to leave their countries and marry men from Western Europe or Northern America. It is absolutely incorrect, because there are thousands of Russian and Ukrainian ladies, wishing to marry western men and also tens of millions that are happily married to Russian and Ukranian men.

   If a Ukrainian woman is married a Ukrainian man she will not divorce him to marry a foreigner even if conditions of her life are awful. According to statistics, only 0.5% of single or divorced Ukrainian women wish to marry a foreigner.

   It is quite overwhelming that the majority of Ukrainian women even if they could find a husband, a lot of them don't want to leave their country and would rather stay closer to their family and friends.

   The Ukrainian ladies, who want to leave their country, do not make these important decisions thoughtlessly, and the ladies of our agency understand that you assume: they should leave their family, friends and move to a country where they do not know anyone, except for you, they will not hear their native language and will be completely dependent on you in the beginning. 9. How do most Ukrainian women go through the process of adaptation to a new country, is "nostalgia" a problem?

   Within the first months Russian and Ukrainian women feel some «nostalgia»: they miss their family and friends, they ask themselves many questions and cry sometimes. Do not think, that in the beginning of her living in a good life condition can make her easily forget all that she liked in her country. To arrive in an unknown country where she does not know anybody except her husband and it will be impossible to communicate because of her language barrier, extremely complicates her life and is a source of stress. She will be absolutely dependent on you (in the first months) and she will not be self-assured. But women don’t want to go back to Ukraine. They miss their friends and family but not the country itself. She knows that decision to marry a foreigner is not an easy choice. And her main purpose is to create a family and her desire will succeed, it is more than nostalgia for her country. In general Russian and Ukrainian women quickly start to speak and understand the English language (on the average through 5 — 6 months) and become more independent; they adapt gradually to the new conditions of life and are very happy that they have created a family

   The present psychological transition between a new family (with you) and her former family (her relatives who have stayed in Ukraine) is done in general at the end of the first year: she will feel in depth of her heart, thus henceforth her family and her present life are in the country she loves in with her husband.

   If you ask women married to Westerners about how they feel being so far from their home. All of them will say: «Move back to Ukraine? NEVER!!!»
   Yes, they are Russian or Ukrainian, and they will always be. But they do not like the country. They do love it but too many things are wrong there, even though quite a lot of things are right. Russians and Ukrainians are intelligent and educated nation, and they deserve better.
   Things are really changing in Ukraine for the better in some ways. The government tries to sort it out, and people have hopes and aspirations. But it's not so encouraging to live in a hope that one day (may be in 15-20 years) the level of life in Ukraine will become better.
   But our women want to have family and children NOW, they cannot wait another 15 or 20 years. For that, they are willing to sacrifice their country, culture, language, family and friends. I believe they deserve respect for their bravery and industriousness
   
   
   

10. What do Ukrainian women think about interracial marriages?
    
    They simply do not think about them. The majority of Russian and Ukrainian women won’t consider an interracial marriage. As you know, there are no people of African origin in Ukraine , so ladies do not put the requirement about race on their lists. For them it’s natural that they consider themselves applying only to men of their race.
    There are native inhabitants of Asian race in Ukraine (Bashkir, Bouryat, Koreans and others), and this type of interracial marriage was not uncommon in the past and still takes place. They don’t talk about interracial marriages, it’s not an issue there. Ukrainians are proud that they don’t have racial problems.
    There is no prejudice towards such marriages. They don’t condemn somebody else’s marriage to a person of a different race. At the same time women seldom will consider it as a personal option.
    It depends. For Russian and Ukrainian ladies, if you look white, you are white. They do not separate Hispanic and whites. They are afraid of Arabs, but mostly because of differences in religion (Russians and Ukrainians are Christians). They adore mulattos, especially of the lighter color. American and Europeans would have much better chance then a colored man from Africa.
    Quite a few ladies will consider a man of Asian origin as an option, though you’ve got less chance than a white guy, and you will have to try harder. Though I had some Asian and black clients. 11. Would a Russian lady be interested in living in a small town?
    
    The majority of Ukrainian and Russian ladies seem to be rather cosmopolitan. The reason is that in Ukraine living in a small town or village is a nightmare. There are very poor life conditions, dirtiness, no entertainment, no goods to buy, even TV reception may be not available. Ukrainian ladies do not know and understand the difference between small towns in Ukraine and abroad, and they just have this instinctive fear towards small towns.
    I would advise you to tell the lady you are interested in more about your town, its entertainment, restaurants and cafes, TV reception and other attractions, weather conditions etc. — everything that you like there. Do not try too hard — you must just say how nice the place is and why you like to live there. If you stay there because one can make very good living, mention it. Send a nice picture featuring you city in summer — with flowers or a lake, or anything nice and warm. Tell her where you can go for better entertainment like opera or theatre, and how far the place is.
    
    
    

12. What age difference is acceptable for Ukrainian women ladies?
    5-15 years difference is perfectly acceptable and normal.

    However be careful on the other hand, you must not have unrealistic expectations. If you are in your late 50’s or 60’s, you must not expect to find a 20-year old single girl. There are many wonderful, attractive women in their late 30s or 40s who will be eager to make your acquaintance; at least half of marriage agencies- female clients belong to this age group, and you won’t have any problems with attracting their attention.

    In special cases if you are very good looking, or very intelligent/rich/famous, you can make it with an age difference of 20 years or more. This difference will be the exception and not the rule. If your aim is a lifetime commitment, be sure to take age differences into consideration when selecting women to get to know. Use common sense and be realistic in your expectations. Virtually all women will not have a problem with age difference up to 10 years, and many find acceptable age difference up to 15 years, a few will be OK with age difference up to 20 years. But anything beyond this will put you on a very thin ice, and you are likely to encounter problems in your search or eventually in your marriage.

    Young girls tend to be less worried about difference in age than older women: a girl of 20 years old is normally interested in men up to 45, while a woman of 40 years old will usually limit her search to men under 55. Thus, if you are 48, a girl of 27 years old may consider you a suitable candidate and a girl of 35 may decide you are too old for her.

    Women who are in the age group of 22-33 want to start a family as soon as possible. Ukrainian society places a pressure on the woman to get married by the age of 27; after that her family and friends start thinking she will never get married and give up on her. She also starts getting used to the idea she will never have her own family. Once women become content with the idea of never getting married, their requirements for a prospective partner soar. Just getting married to avoid the shame of being single is already not enough for them.

    However, I want to say that everyone is an individuals and individuals interact and react differently. There are no set rules or demarcation. You need to meet and see if there is attraction and chemistry.
    
    
    

13. I saw that many women among your clients are divorced and with children. Where are the fathers of these children?

    In Ukraine the situation with children is a bit different. Not to say that they don’t love their children, probably just love them not enough. Children always stay with their mother after divorce and never with fathers.
    Children are considered to be a burden. Fathers often run away from paying maintenance, and use tricks like having two jobs and paying maintenance from the lowest paid one (in Ukraine maintenance is paid as percentage of salary). Fathers are rarely involved in the upbringing their children from a previous marriage. They do not see them, not because women don’t allow but because they don’t want to.
    Of course, not all of men act like this but the vast majority.
    A woman with a child is very lucky to get married the second time. Men do not want to take responsibility for somebody else’s child.
    So I assume if a woman is looking for a life partner abroad, the father of her child does not care.
    
    
    

14. Do Ukrainian and Russian women speak English?

    Ukrainian and Russian women in general have a good level of education and have a school base of foreign language (frequently English), but have no necessity to use it in daily life and they do not practice what they were taught. To read the letter in English takes a lot of time for them and if they receive a few letters at the same time, we will be not sure that they will have time to read them all! The letter written in Russian will be read 100%. The same concerns their answer to you: it will be necessary for them on the average all day (7 or 8 hours) to write two page letter!

    If you use the translator, be sure that you don't do a direct translation of your brilliant and smart letter which being translated into Russian will be hardly clear and will seem silly. Automatic electronic translation is awful: if you doubt, try to translate a phrase from English to Russian and then from Russian to English, you will see what it resembles: "nothing".

    The same goes with the telephone conversations: they do not speak English very well, usually, and a phone call will not serve the purpose for you, it will be only for an exchange of several words. Also your dialogue will not be rich and you will not find out much about each other (only your telephone company will be pleased). Therefore we casually offer services of written and telephone bilingual translation for our clients, if you wish to establish qualitative dialogue between you and your correspondents and to avoid catastrophic misunderstanding.

    Many of the ladies speak English. Most speak at least some words. Many men chose to be introduced only to women that speak English. I think that is a great mistake. Most women have not been able to afford private English courses and therefore do not speak passable English. Do not limit yourself. If you like the lady, and there is chemistry why eliminate a good match for you? If you are serious about her and would like to marry her, she can speak English before her visa is approved!
    
    
    

15. How to make the right choice?

    First of all, you must understand that each Ukrainian woman has her own character and what is perfect for one won’t work for another. In this they are no different from their American counterparts.

    You should decide for yourself what you are looking for in a woman, which personal qualities are a right for you and what you will never accept. What kind of person would you like to meet — a partygoer, a sportswoman, a career maker, a housewife? Must she be an introvert or an extrovert? Try to imagine her behavior in different situations. Think about the person you will feel comfortable with. You must have her image in your mind.

    When you look through catalogues, pay special attention to women’s professions. The profession she chose may say a lot about her. People with the same occupation usually have many things in common. Also look at her choice of education — this is what she chose herself. Keep in mind that her current job may simply be a result of circumstances.

    (For example, medical doctors are paid in Ukraine by the government, their salaries are very low, and paid with delays; therefore it is not unusual for a qualified medical doctor to work in sales where salaries are higher and paid on time. Foreigners are usually amazed by highly educated women working in positions that seem to be too low for their education; in Ukraine, it is quite a usual thing.)

17. Are there any things that would be better to avoid? Please, advise.

    Do not try to persuade a woman that the other guys who are writing to her are going to waste her time. I would feel suspicious towards people who try to paint their competitors unworthy.

    Do not try to impress the women with the things of your possessions. If you are well established in life, talk about that, but don’t dwell on it. When a man sends the first letter with the photos of his house, his car and his swimming pool taken from all possible angles with the first letter, you feel he’s going to make you his next purchase. Nobody likes to be for sale! You can send a lady this type of photo if your correspondence blossoms, but I think she should be interested in you as a person first.

    Using a girl’s name a few times throughout your letter makes it more personal, but check carefully that you have changed it in all the places you used it before printing. Once I received a letter which started «Hello, Anna!» and ended with «Sleep with angels, Olga!»

    Sending flowers or gifts can have a decisive impact to your relations. It shows you have a genuine interest and care about her. Don’t forget to send greetings with her birthday, Christmas and New Year, Valentine’s day and the Women’s Day (March 8th) or just because you want to lighten her day!
    
    
    

18. How many women should I write to, to ensure I get a good response?

    If you write to only one or two ladies, you are severely limiting your chances. The response from women depends on how good of a letter writer you are and what sort of photographs you send to them. The average man should begin with 10 — 20 letters and he would likely get a response from 50% of the women he writes to. The more women you write, the better the letters and the higher quality the photographs are, the more replies you will receive. Of course, no one can guarantee how many letters you will receive in reply. If you don’t get many replies, revise your letter or expectations accordingly and try again.
    
    
    

19. How to write the first letter?

    Your first letter is very important. You won't get a second chance to create a first impression. This is your real chance to start new relations that could become an important part of your life.
    Try to make your letter original, such what you would like to receive. The first letter should be long so to interest, but to not bother. It should be informative, but at the same time entertaining and interesting. Be romantic and don't forget about humor:). You'll have more chances to receive a reply if you send a clear and recent photograph of yourself with your first letter.
    You must be clear and precise about things, and avoid being too general. Discussing your opinions about family life is important, but do not forget to supply a lady with all the important information she is looking for. Tell more about the personality you are, about your interests and hobbies, about your business, house etc.
    If you live in a small town, tell about the town and what life there is like. Tell about the climate and what entertainments are close by. But please, don’t just tell about the things but give your personal emotional assessments, all women ARE emotional by nature.
    Say that you are serious, if you are going to visit Ukraine one day, what kind of life she will live if comes to the country as your wife. You probably think it’s dull things and it goes without saying; NO, you MUST mention it.
    You must not try to look too good. Women like strong, powerful men, who are not easy to handle, but will appreciate if it’s only SHE who can do it. Women in general don’t like men who are nobody’s target.

    You must not tell too much about your religious views. Say that Christian values are very important for you but do not go in depth. Ukrainian women do appreciate Christian moral values, they just cannot follow them in everyday life because of objective reasons.
    A Ukrainian woman will accept her husband’s life-style, just don’t try to do it from the very beginning of your new relationship. Life in Ukraine is completely different. It’s so bad that one hardly can believe in God and that such a mess could have been created according his will. 21. How long time usually takes correspondence? If I have time to visit Ukraine only in 2 years time, when should I start?
    
    It depends on the couple, but usually couples meet after exchanging 5-15 letters. If you correspond via email, it will take much faster. The aim of correspondence is not to do it for a definite period of time but to know each other better. You can write only 1 letter but if you talk to each other few times by phone, you will have often more information about another person than if you have been corresponding for years.
    I know cases where a couple met after 1 month, and fell hopelessly in love with each other; and where two were successfully corresponding for 2,5 years and were deeply disappointed by personal meeting.
    As a rule, as soon as you feel that the other person is the right partner, go and see her. If you hesitate, you may happen to be too late.
    For the same reason you cannot start your search for Russian wife 2 years in advance, you will just waste your time. You must be able at least to find a week to visit your virtual girlfriend when you have decided she could become that right one.
    
    
    
22. Is it possible for a woman to visit me first?
    
    There are many different types of visas a person can get for coming to USA but for a single young woman the only one she can get easily is a fiance? e visa. All the other visitors’ visas are very difficult to obtain including the tourist visa. If a lady has very good income (more than $500 a month), some property in Russia and a child staying behind, and SHE CAN PROVE IT, she will probably be able to get a tourist visa. If she does not meet the criteria, she can’t hope to get the visa. She will be refused a visa 99% of the time, and it will make it much more difficult for her to apply for a visa next time.
    
    If she tries any trick with the consulate, she may be blacklisted.
    
    If you have not met in person before, it will be impossible to get the only type of visa she should use for coming to you — the fiancee visa. If it’s a problem for you to travel that far, you may consider a possibility to meet somewhere else — on one of the islands where she does not need a visa (Caribbean or any other close by).
    
    US embassy is very concerned about single women from Eastern Europe visiting States on tourist visas. Very often they don’t return. Too often.
    
    So you can try to apply for a tourist visa, and discover for yourself what thousands of US men already know — for an unmarried woman from Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan etc a tourist visa is more than very difficult to obtain. Some men even talked to the Embassy, and they confirmed she can apply for a tourist visa. The lady did, it took 3-6 months to collect all necessary papers, then they waited 2-3 months again for decision, and eventually the visa is refused. It will frustrate your lady up to the limit, and she will be about to give up.
    
    The correct way of bringing a woman into US (Canada) is a fiancee visa that requires your personal meeting before the time.
